On Monday, September 27, 2010, an Opening Ceremony was held to welcome eight new students comprising the 7th intake of APU's Global Business Leaders Development Program (GBLP*). The GBLP is part of the Japanese Government's "Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia" which begun in AY2007.
GBLP Promotion Committee Chairman and APU Vice-President, HIRATA Junichi, and Project Leader and Dean of the College of International Management, Professor YOKOYAMA Kenji, began the ceremony with a welcoming address. Vice-President HIRATA said that GBLP participants need to "work hard and have the right attitude to open up one's career path. Through conquering barriers, I am sure that we can all realize a brighter future". Dean of the College of International Management, Professor YOKOYAMA Kenji, offered the students a few words, "I encourage you to master the Japanese language and culture and develop into innovative graduates".
The students then introduced themselves in Japanese and spoke of their aspirations and goals for the future. Students spoke of their aims of becoming graduates that can link Japan with their home nations, and endeavor to someday work for a Japanese company.
The GBLP aims to develop future business leaders who can contribute to Japan's economic development while leading the way in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to standard APU curriculum subjects, 3rd and 4th year students on the GBLP also take special GBLP courses (including internships) and work towards gaining an in-depth understanding in the fields of international strategy and marketing, finance, human resource management, and more.
APU continues to work towards further improvement of the program and support GBLP participants on their path towards employment at a Japanese business.
