On Friday October 24, 2008, the 2 week course held in Oita came to an end and the Closing Ceremony was held for the JICA Philippines Autonomous Region Cluster Activation Seminar (One Village One Product) Movement Course at APU.
8 town mayors from the Philippines came to Japan and a 1 week training course was held at APU as part of the JICA Philippines Autonomous Region Cluster Activation Seminar (One Village One Product) Movement Course which is now in its 3rd year. They attended lectures and discussions given by APU faculty members as well as lectures and excursions in Taketa City, Kurokawa Onsen, and Kokonoe Town. In Kokonoe Town they paid a visit to Mayor SAKAMOTO Kazuaki and had the opportunity to receive a lecture from him directly about regional revival. The participants returned to the Philippines and had many ideas about how they could put to use in their own municipalities the knowledge and experiences they gained here.
APU has been accepting trainees from countries around the world as part of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sponsored ODA Technical Cooperation Project. Oita has received great interest internationally as the birthplace of the One Village One Product Movement and in 2008 has received trainees from the Africa region, ASEAN region, Chile and East Timor as well as the Philippines.
