On Friday, November 6, 2009, Ms. MURAKAMI Atsuko, General Manager of the Finance Planning Department, Finance Division, Headquarters, Sony Corporation, delivered an RCAPS seminar entitled "The Global Financial Crisis and its Impacts - a View from the Finance Businesses". During her lecture, she talked about the financial crisis and its effects based on her experiences of working in Tokyo, New York and London.
Ms. MURAKAMI spoke of her experiences of coping with the effects of the global financial crisis while working at the Sony Global Treasury Services in London as well as at Sony HQ in Tokyo. She then described the current financial state of many Japanese manufacturers reeling to overcome its continuing effects. Ms. Murakami also emphasized that, due to the catastrophic impact of financial crisis, many companies, both in Japan and outside Japan, need to reform their business and management strategy in order to build up a stronger financial foundation and resilience to future economic crisis.
A Q&A session was held at the conclusion of the seminar in which many students raised questions to find out more from Ms. MURAKAMI's vast experiences of the financial world. Ms. MURAKAMI commented on the great response and informative questions from the audience keen to get an insight into the world of international finance.
RCAPS was established in July 1996 with a mission to promote and foster research into the multifaceted developments and challenges that face the Asia Pacific region in the 21st Century. RCAPS seminars are held regularly at which lecturers from both on and off campus are invited to share research findings in the field of Asia Pacific Studies.
