RCAPS Seminar will be held on December 11th (Friday)
Mr. Daniel Alkhal's lecture on "Refugee Protection in Japan and Role of UNHCR" will cover basic questions such as who is a refugee and under whose responsibilities refugee protection falls. Mr. Alkhal will further explain the role of UNHCR worldwide and in Japan in particular, thereby elaborating what is meant by supervising the implementation of the 1951 Refugee Convention. In this regard, the importance of partnerships with diverse governmental and non-governmental organizations will be highlighted in order to ensure fair and efficient asylum procedure, reception conditions of asylum seekers including alternatives to detention, and facilitate local integration into the host society.
