On Thursday, September 17, 2009, Director of the APU Asia Pacific Innovation Management Center (AP-IMAC), Professor NAKATA delivered a lecture on entering into the solar cell industry and marked the inauguration of the Oita Prefecture New Energy Industrialization Research Group.
The lecture was held as part of support initiatives to aid Oita Prefecture business and their entry into the solar cell manufacturing field. In addition to Professor NAKATA's lecture, the audience split into three groups looking at different fields of the solar cell industry and held group discussions.
Professor NAKATA delivered a lecture under the theme of "The Solar Battery Industry's Market Entry and Oita Prefecture's Industrial and Regional Promotion" during which he gave examples of businesses who have already entered the solar cell manufacturing market such as DENKEN and Fujishima. Co, and provided some insights for Oita Prefecture business looking to enter the solar cell manufacturing industry such as the Concentrator Photovoltaic Systems (CPV) of Silicon Valley.
The lecture proved to be very informative for the approximately 50 people in attendance made up of members of the Oita Prefecture New Energy Industrialization Research Group and local business men looking to enter the solar cell industry in the future.
At the conclusion of the lecture, the audience split into three groups: solar cell manufacturing equipment, applied solar cell goods, and solar cell installation and popularization. The groups then discussed current issues that need to be addressed and Professor NAKATA gave his advice to the members of the Oita Prefecture New Energy Industrialization Research Group.
In an age when initiatives working towards the building of a society with a smaller carbon footprint are sought, solar energy is seen as one of the growth industries. However, a number of issues need to be addressed when it comes to entering this market. From October 2009, Professor NAKATA will spend five months investigating Silicon Valley solar cell business ventures at Stanford University (USA) and, based on these examples, provide support local Oita Prefecture businesses looking to enter the solar cell manufacturing market.
APU established the AP-IMAC in December last year and aims for it to become a center for education and research in the Asia Pacific region in the field of innovation management. APU aims to make a greater contribution to the community through innovation management.
