APU student, OMICHI Yuka (APS4, Japan) ran in the Osaka International Ladies Marathon held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 and placed 45th out of 356 with a time of 2 hours, 55.41 minutes. This was Ms. OMICHI's first attempt at a full marathon.
Ms. OMICHI has been a member of the APU Women's Athletic Team for the last four years and appeared in a number of athletic competitions both in Oita Prefecture and further afield. She placed 1st in the women's 5000 meters at the 2009 Oita Prefecture Spring Athletics Competition and made her 9th appearance at the All-Japan Intercollegiate Women's Ekiden Championship held in Miyagi Prefecture in October, 2009, by running the 6th section.
Looking back on the marathon, Ms. OMICHI said, "We had a lot of snow in January so I couldn't train as much I would have wanted to and it rained on the day of the race so I couldn't reach the time I had set for myself. But I was able to see the race to the finish thanks to everyone along to course who supported me".
She also commented on her memories of the APU Women's Athletic Team and her aspirations for the future, "I have many memories of my time with the team. It was four years of beating our personal-best times, running at competitions and training hard amongst good friends. Sometimes we weren't able to run as we would have liked, but I only have fond memories of the team. When I graduate I hope to continue running in marathons in my hometown, Nagasaki".
APU graduate OKAMOTO Mitsuki (APS graduate, spring'06) also completed the Osaka International Ladies Marathon.
