On Friday, April 9, 2010, a commendation ceremony was held to recognize the efforts of nine students who posted excellent results in the "APU Overseas Exchange Preparation Program" – part of APU's pre-entry education courses. The ceremony also recognized the winner, and six other prize winning students, of the "APU Notebook" competition.

APU Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, KONDO Yuichi, gave a few words of encouragement to the recipients, "Please make the most of each and every day during your time at APU and work towards your future career path. I'm sure that this recognition will be a great boost for you all and I look forward to you future endeavors."

Following this, APU President KORENAGA Shun addressed the audience and handed each recipient their certificate, "You will all be the creators of APU's 'new decade'. I am sure that if you apply yourselves to your studies with a strong sense of purpose, APU will develop into an even better place."

Winner of the "APU Notebook" competition OTAKA Ayane (APM1, Japan) spoke of his aspirations for the future, "I was surprised to see that we had to research 97 countries and regions, but it was a very satisfying task and I am glad that I managed to complete it. It was a great way to gain a deeper understanding of each different country and I hope to continue to investigate more about them at APU."

First year student and candidate for future APU exchange programs, SASAKI Kazuha (APM1, Japan), spoke of her goals for her time at APU, "I'm looking forward to making many new friends in the university's international environment and, through participating on overseas exchanges, will work towards realizing my dreams."

The APU Notebook "Window to the World" aims to provide students with the means to deepen their understanding of the multilingual and multicultural APU environment prior to entering the university, and based on a theme of their choice, requires students to investigate each of the 97 countries and regions represented by international students on the APU campus. Furthermore, the "APU Overseas Exchange Preparation Program" is held for early-entrant students with high levels of English ability and a strong desire to participate in APU overseas exchange programs. Under expert guidance, participating students are also required to submit regular essays utilizing Japanese and English subject matter.

In addition to the two initiatives introduced above, APU has put in place a number of pre-entry programs to ensure that new students can adjust to their new lives as university students as smoothly as possible.
