On Sunday, December 5, 2010, APU President KORENAGA Shun visited Xiamen Foreign Language School and Xiamen Shuangshi Middle School of Fujian, China, and concluded a student recommendation agreement. With the conclusion of this agreement, the three parties have reaffirmed their solid and cooperative relationship.
Established in 1919 to commemorate Sun Wen's Xinhai Revolution, the Xiamen Shuangshi Middle School has an illustrious history and many graduates have entered Peking University and Tsinghua University. The school also has a strong extracurricular program including the school choir which was crowned champion of an all-China choir competition.
Established in 1985, the Xiamen Foreign Language School sends many students on study abroad programs throughout the world every year including Japan, America and Great Britain. APU and the Xiamen Foreign Language School continue to enjoy a cordial relationship which has seen a number of top Xiamen Foreign Language School students enter APU.
There are currently over 800 students from China studying at APU which is a testament to the strong relationship of trust that has developed between the University and China. The university also hosts the Confucius Institute, the first to be established in Kyushu, and provides opportunities for students and members of the general public to study the Chinese language and culture. In the past, APU has welcomed Chinese government officials for a campus inspection and APU and China continue to enjoy an active relationship of exchange.
