Conclusion of Agreement of Cooperation with the Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University

The Agreement of Cooperation was concluded with the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta, Indonesia on December 11, 2006.

This is the 10th Indonesian institution and university which APU has established an Agreement of Cooperation with. The Agreement of Cooperation was signed by Rektor Azyumardi Azra and President Cassim. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, Head of Interdiscliplinary Islamic Studies, from UIN Syarif Hidayutullah State Islamic University and Professor Edgar Porter, Director of the Institute for International Strategic Studies, from APU, attended the signing ceremony.

The UIN Syarif Hidayutullah State Islamic University was the first State Islamic University founded in Indonesia. The university has nine faculties at the undergraduate level and offers master's programs and doctoral programs at the graduate school. Professor Edgar Porter, Director of the Institute for International Strategic Studies, visited the university in October, 2006 to initiate discussions related to the study of Muslim societies in Asia at APU and an Active Learning program to be hosted by UIN in late 2007. During Rektor Azra's visit, it was agreed that there would also be active exchanges between the two universities and that faculty and student exchanges would also be made possible in the future.



With the conclusion of this agreement, APU has 249 affiliated universities in 50 countries and regions.
