Acquire advanced language skills Your key to success in the Asia Pacific region
In addition to Japanese and English, APU provides students with the opportunity to learn six languages used in the Asia Pacific region. These AP languages are offered in courses ranging from introductory to advanced levels. Because APU is home to many international students and faculty whose native languages are one of these six AP languages, students can acquire advanced language proficiency through communicating with native speakers outside of class.
To enroll in AP language subjects, Japanese-basis students must have completed at least Elementary English. English-basis students must have completed or received a waiver for the Japanese Foundation courses.
Overseas Language Training (Immersion) Programs
Language immersion programs are intensive programs designed to improve student language proficiency. They are held at foreign universities or their affiliated language schools during the summer and winter breaks. While some programs target students who have studied (or are studying) the language in question, others are designed for beginners. Credits for some of these programs can be transferred back to APU.
