Nov 19, 2007

On Tuesday 13th November, the 2007 Fall Award and Scholarship Conferral Ceremony was held at the APU Convention Hall.

The APU scholarship system aims to encourage and provide assistance to students who have achieved academic excellence and participated in rewarding extracurricular activities.

This time round, 5 students were awarded the ANDO Momofuku Scholarship, and for the Academic Merit Scholarship, 12 students were chosen, with 25 students being awarded the Academic Merit Award. The students were presented with their certificates by APU President Cassim and the Deans of both the College of Asia Pacific Studies and the College of Asia Pacific Management

In his opening greetings, President Cassim thanked the recipients for their daily efforts in their studies and extracurricular endeavours, but also expressed to them that "A scholarship is a glowing appraisal of the recipient's efforts and creativity, however please do not forget to extend your gratitude to all of the people who have supported and helped you in your efforts".

The recipient of the Ando Momofuku Scholarship, HARA Yusuke (APS3, Japan), expressed his gratitude and ambitions: "I believe that at APU we can create the kind of community where everyone can develop a discerning eye for the world. I want to lead a fulfilling student life, and I aspire to be a Japanese person with an acquired knowledge of my own culture, and be able to express myself in appropriate English in today's international society. I am very grateful to the people have guided me thus far".

After the ceremony, an informal celebration took place where the prize winners had the opportunity to mingle with staff and faculty.
