Scholarships available after enrollment

The scholarship system at APU has been developed to help provide equal opportunities to students and support the growth of our diverse student body. Here you can find information about some of the unique APU scholarships that you can apply for after you enter APU.
In addition to the scholarships listed here, a comprehensive range of scholarships are available at APU including scholarships offered by the University, prefectural and municipal organisations, and private foundations.

The ANDO Momofuku Award

Up to 500,000JPY is awarded to 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students who satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
1) Have displayed outstanding scholastic achievement
2) Have displayed outstanding achievement in extracurricular and/or independent activities

The ANDO Momofuku Honor Prize

Open to undergraduate students scheduled to graduate from APU who have displayed outstanding scholastic and self-initiated achievements. The winning recipient is awarded up to 1,000,000JPY upon their graduation.

Academic Merit Scholarship

100,000JPY is awarded in each applicable semester to undergraduate student(s) in each college who have gained the required amount of credits and achieved the highest GPA.

Incentive Scholarship for Self-motivated Students

Students and/or organizations that have displayed exceptional performance in extracurricular activities are awarded up to 50,000JPY for individuals and up to 100,000JPY for organizations.

Resident Assistant Scholarship

20,000JPY is paid every month to students that have been appointed as Resident Assistants (RA) at AP House (student dormitory).

For Students Affected by a Natural Disaster

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) introduces the following scholarship and support programs for students whose household finances have been significantly affected by a natural disaster.

Support may be available not only in cases where a home has been damaged, but also when a disaster has caused a significant loss of income, bankruptcy, the death of a household breadwinner, or other serious changes in financial circumstances. Depending on your situation, you may be eligible to apply for scholarship and support programs offered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), or the APU Domestic Student Supporters Association. Please note that eligibility requirements, application periods, and support details vary by program.

  1. Support Programs Offered by JASSO

    (1) JASSO Grant-Type Scholarship (Sudden Change in Household Finances) *For domestic students only
    This scholarship is available to students who have experienced a significant decrease in household income due to a disaster, meet the household financial criteria (equivalent to those for non-taxable households) and academic requirements, and are recognized as being in urgent need of financial assistance through a grant-type scholarship.

    (2) JASSO Loan-Type Scholarship (Emergency Recruitment / Urgent Recruitment) *For domestic students only
    This scholarship is available to students whose household finances have suddenly changed due to a disaster, who are recognized as being in urgent need of a loan-type scholarship, and whose qualifying event occurred within the past 12 months.

    (3) JASSO Disaster Relief Benefit (One-Time Grant of ¥100,000) *For domestic students only
    This benefit is available to students whose residence, or the residence of a parent or other household breadwinner, has sustained disaster-related damage such as flooding above floor level or half-destruction of house (or more severe damage). Applications must be submitted within six months of the disaster event.

  2. Support Programs Offered by Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University

    (1) APU Domestic Students Financial Aid Tuition Reduction (Sudden Change in Household Income) *For domestic students only

    • Available to undergraduate students who have experienced a sudden change in household finances or have been affected by a natural disaster. For detailed eligibility requirements and application procedures, please refer to the application guidelines available at the URL below.
    • Applications may be submitted within one year of the event that caused the financial hardship. Please check the website below for the application details.

  3. Support Program Offered by the APU Domestic Student Supporters Association

    (1) APU Domestic Student Supporters' Association Scholarship
    Available only to children of APU Domestic Student Supporters Association members
    This scholarship provides financial support to students who are experiencing difficulty continuing their studies due to a sudden change in household finances caused by circumstances such as the death or loss of employment of the primary household breadwinner, who is a member of the APU Domestic Student Supporters Association.
    Award Amount: ¥200,000 for eligible member-students who have been selected for the APU Domestic Students Financial Aid Tuition Reduction (Sudden Change in Household Income).
