Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia to Underwrite APU Project

The "Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia" was established jointly by the Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MEXT), and project funding will begin in the 2007 academic year. As part of this project, APU has been selected as both a participating university and managing organisation for the "Advanced Education Program for Career Development of Foreign Students from Asia", and its "Global Business Leaders Development Program" was proposed with support from a consortium of 14 Japanese companies involved in global development. "Kyushu-Asia International Students with Practical Skills Development Project" proposed by the Aso Juku Academy as a managing organization has been selected for "Regional Internship Program for Career Development of Foreign Students from Asia". This program aims to improve the flow of talent from Asia to the Kyushu region and to internationalize regional industry. In cooperation with the Aso Juku Academy, APU joins in the consortium for this project as a participating university.

1.Advanced Education Program for Career Development of Foreign Students from Asia

This project, managed by the university and a consortium of global Japanese corporations, is designed to provide outstanding international students with
(1) highly-specialized education to meet corporate needs,
(2) business Japanese proficiency required for working in Japan,
(3) Japanese business education and
(4) internships. The aim of the project is to cultivate proactive foreign talent for Japanese industry.

Most of global Japanese corporations hire regardless of nationality to remain competitive internationally. Exceptional international students are in demand, and Japanese corporations's needs for international students is becoming more diverse and more sophisticated. Due in large part to unflagging support from our partners, APU has brought a grand total of 4506 international student from 98 countries and regions to Japan since opening in April 2000 (Figures current as of May 1, 2007). APU has been sending many of its international graduates to work for Japanese corporations and their overseas subsidiaries. In light of APU's educational achievements to date, its "Global Business Leaders Development Program" meets the Japanese industry's demands for international students. This program aims to develop students with the soft skills required to act as liaisons for Japanese industry. At the same time, the program will cultivate advanced management skills that are necessary for future area and global managers. To promote this program, the university, working in conjunction with 14 global Japanese corporations (See list below), will develop a consortium to provide the best education possible while cultivating global human resources for the future of Japanese industry.

2.Regional Internship Program for Career Development of Foreign Students from Asia

In cooperation with the Aso Juku Academy, the Kyushu-Asia Regional Internship Program for Career Development of Foreign Students from Asia aims to improve the flow of talent from Asia to the Kyushu region and to internationalize regional industry.

APU will arrange internships for and provide business Japanese and Japanese business etiquette training to those international students from Asia that want to work in Japanese corporations. APU is proud of its role in cultivating foreign talent to revitalize the Kyushu area.
