APU was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, Sports and Technology (MEXT) for the 2006 Japanese Government Scholarship Student Priority Placement Program.
Under this program, the government selects several unique graduate programs geared toward exchange students and gives these programs priority for placement of government scholarship students. 69 public, private and national universities throughout Japan applied for 162 programs, of which 61 programs in 32 universities were selected. Among private universities, 5 universities applied for 7 programs, of which 2 Ritsumeikan programs and 2 APU programs were successfully selected.
At APU, the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies Master's Program in International Cooperation Policy "Japan-EU/Graduate Level Joint Degree Program Integrating Science and the Humanities" was selected, and 7 priority placement students have been allocated to this program. In the Graduate School of Management, the "Comparative Institution Design for Transition Economy and Business Management" was selected, and 4 students have been allocated to this program.

Under this program, the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies Master's Program in International Cooperation Policy (Environmental Policy Administration Division) and Germany's University of Applied Sciences Trier, Institute for International Material Flow Management have teamed up to offer a dual master's degree program in English. Students will receive a Master of Science in International Cooperation Studies from APU and a Master of Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences, Trier. Focusing on students from the Asia Pacific region-where many developing countries continue to struggle with ever-increasing environmental issues- this program will develop international leaders with a firm knowledge of environmental administration as well as the hands-on technical know-how necessary to succeed in this field.
This program aims to develop global leaders who can promote and create independent, sustainable and innovative new industries that make the most of the individual cultures and environments of developing countries. Based on APU's world-class MBA course, with all courses offered in English, students will acquire knowledge in comparative systems analysis and national systems innovation. At the same time, students will look at case studies and conduct field work that will help promote economic systems reform, industry creation and corporate innovation in their home countries.
