"Creative I" Photo Exhibition held by APU Students in Fukuoka

Aug 31, 2009

From Thursday, August 20, 2009, until Wednesday 26, the "Creative I" Photo Exhibition was held at the Mitsukoshi Lion Square in Tenjin, Fukuoka. Taken by 25 international and domestic APS students, over 100 photos were on display and attempted to express everyday life in Japan through the unique and unconventional viewpoint of APU's young artists.

This exhibition was planned by APS Professor Peter MANTELLO with the aid of co-organizer BILESANMI Yusuf (APS4, Nigeria) and many APU students involved in creative technology.

Looking back on the event, chief organizer of this event, APS Professor Peter MANTELLO said as he spoke of his aspirations for the future of the event, "It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the amazing talent of both domestic and international students at APU to the general public. Every day that I went to the exhibition, I saw many people, both young and old, who stopped at length to view our students work. I hope that in the future this exhibition will become an annual event in Fukuoka and ultimately travel to other cities too".

Mr. BILESANMI spoke of his impressions on the exhibition, "the project has fulfilled our objective of helping students to turn class based learning into practical innovations and also to show the people of Fukuoka the brilliant ideas of APU students."

Held this year for the first time, the Creative I Photo Exhibition proved to be a great success and was viewed by the many thousands of pedestrians who pass through the Mitsukoshi Lion Square. Considering that this square is passed through by up to 30,000 people daily, we can be sure that the exhibition left a great impression on the general public of Fukuoka. Let's look forward to further great things from our creative technology students.

Professor Peter MANTELLO has been actively engaged in the holding of photo exhibitions including the "Child Soldiers – Forced to be Cruel" exhibition held at the Bundeskunsthalle Museum in Bonn, Germany in 2008.

* This Photo Exhibition was made possible with the cooperation of the Tenjin Meiji-dori Ave. Development Council
