Dear Parents / Guardians of current and incoming students and Other Concerned Parties (RE: Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake)

Mar 16, 2011

The recent Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake that struck northern Japan on March 11 and the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant are no doubt causing considerable concern to you all.

We believe that differences in some of the foreign media coverage and incomplete information are making it difficult for parents and guardians to gain a clear and accurate picture of the situation, particularly among parents of international students.

Beppu City and Oita Prefecture, where APU is located, is far away (about 1,000 km) from areas affected by the earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, are completely safe.

It is unfortunate and irresponsible that misinformation is circulating and we ask that people act calmly and based on reliable information.

The graduation ceremony, grade announcements, class registration, entrance ceremony, regular lectures etc are going ahead as originally scheduled. We ask for the understanding of all parents, guardians and other concerned parties.
