APU Wind Orchestra Club is participating in the Kyushu Wind Orchestra Competition

The APU Wind Orchestra Club won the gold prize in the A department of the 2008 Oita Prefecture Wind Orchestra Competition at the end of July at the iichiko Culture Center in Oita city. The club is going to participate in the 53rd Kyushu Wind Orchestra Competition on behalf of Oita on Sunday the 24th of August in Okinawa. It is the first time they will participate.

The Kyushu Wind Orchestra Competition, the largest wind orchestra competition in Kyushu, organized by the Kyushu Wind Orchestra Association has a variety of divisions from elementary school students through to adults. Each participant competes for 5 days. 9 orchestras from Oita will take part in the competition. Only orchestras which win the gold medal in the competition and have receive a commendation from the association can participate in the national competition.

Representative of APU Wind Orchestra Club, SHINKE Risa(APS2,Japan)made these remarks. "We members are so happy to take part in the Kyushu Wind Orchestra Competition although it is our second time to participate in the qualifying competition (Oita Prefecture Wind Orchestra Competition). We will do our best and have the motto, "Let's have a friendly competition and enjoy our performance." Our final goal is to win the gold prize in the Kyushu competition and then to participate in the national one."

APU Wind Orchestra Club was established in 2002 and 59 students including approximately 10 international students currently belong. They practice 3 times a week mainly at the APU Multipurpose Hall. They perform regularly on and off campus at such events as the Annual Concert, Tenkusai, APU University festival and Station Concert at the JR Beppu Station.
