Centre for Environmental Evolution (CEEV)

We established APU-CEEV (Centre for Environmental Evolution) as an affiliated research centre of the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in 2024.

Message from the Director

Researchers in the CEEV team have been working together since 2018 to explore academic projects, teaching and training, and tourism best practices. We seek to promote the spread of sustainable tourism while addressing larger environmental challenges such as sustainability transition of industry (with a focus on wildlife tourism); global environmental governance (with a focus on wildlife trade); and environmental politics (with a focus on conservation geopolitics).

Scope & Purpose of the Centre

Social evolution is the process by which traits such as cooperation, communication, and competition evolve in response to environmental pressures. Underpinning the transition from the MDGs to the SDGs is “an evolution in understanding development challenges and the need for a comprehensive, integrated, and inclusive approach.” sustainability topics and interdisciplinary projects (e.g. Mt. Fuji trash, wildlife tourism, illegal wildlife trade, crop raiding, etc.). Under the umbrella of sustainability and with a focus on wildlife tourism, the illegal wildlife trade and conservation geopolitics we will create an APU-wide platform that connects researchers and post-graduate students.
