Prof. Drummonds' Students Secure Top Spot in Global Business Strategy Game

Jun 21, 2007

Several teams from Professor Drummond's seminar earned a Global Top 25 ranking for their company's Business Strategy Game online performance during the week of May 21, 2007 to May 27, 2007. In fact, three of them were included in the top three performing companies. The Business Strategy Game is published and marketed exclusively by McGraw-Hill / Irwin, Inc. and has been adopted by 401 college/university campuses from 36 countries and regions world-wide.
As per the game's official website definition, "The Business Strategy Game is a completely online exercise where teams of students run an athletic footwear company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other class members." (http://www.bsg-online.com/)

Students compete in a global market arena selling branded and private label athletic footwear in four geographical regions: 1) Europe-Africa, 2) North America, 3) Asia-Pacific and 4) Latin America. As in the real world, company co-managers make decisions relating to plant operations, distribution and warehouse operations, work force compensation, online sales at the company's web site, sales and marketing, and finance.

Participants are required to craft and execute a competitive strategy that results in a respected brand image, keep their company in contention for global market leadership, and produce good financial performance as measured by earnings per share, return on investment, stock price appreciation, and credit rating.

APU Student WONG Nick (APM 3, Malaysia) from the winning team 'HIGHER' had the following to say about the competition.

"I am very pleased that three teams from Prof. Drummond's seminar were able to secure top positions in the global business competition. For two months, we drew on the knowledge we have gained in APM about running a successful company. Like the real business world, we faced lots of challenges and fierce competition, and we learnt the importance of teamwork. However, our hard work paid off as our company turned out to be very successful. I would like to thank my professors and my fellow team members for helping to achieve this great result."
