About APU

APU selected for MEXT "Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools"

Recently APU made an application to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) "Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools" under the title of "The Development of Leaders in Asia Pacific Environmental Conservation Development" and has since been accepted.

The "Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools" is a program for Master's and PhD courses developing high level human resources capable of working in a range of areas in society. Through providing targeted support for outstanding organizational and systematic educational initiatives, the program aims to substantiate graduate school education, and through this, promote the fostering of an international educational environment. Furthermore, by providing information on adopted initiatives to the public, it aims to improve university graduate school education.

A total of 163 applications were made by 134 universities in the three fields of "humanities", "science, engineering and agriculture" and "medical". In the "humanities" field to which APU applied and was accepted, there were 55 applications from 53 universities of which 11 applications were accepted including APU. This is our second program to be accepted into the "Program for Enhancing Systematic Education in Graduate Schools" following the "Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University MBA Program" adopted in 2007.

An outline of "The Development of Leaders in Asia Pacific Environmental Conservation Development" is as follows:

This educational program deals with the important issues of solving environmental problems occurring on a global scale and the development of next-generation environmental development leaders who can work for the citizens of the world to make sustainable development and coexistence a reality. In line with our university philosophy, the entire university is getting involved in the realization of these important issues.

We are in an age when a recycling-oriented society with a sustainable life style is sought. This education program aims to focus on the environment, and in particular, recycling based sustainable environmental conservation, management and development. It aims to develop human resources who can realize the regions potential and create a model for sustainable regional conservational development.

This educational program aims to develop next-generation environmental experts and opinion leaders (researchers, strategists, educators, planners and businessmen) with deep interdisciplinary knowledge and skills who can, through educational and research activities; investigate, analyze and model changes in the global biosphere; create new technology and management strategies; and create plans and simulations for the sustainable conservation, management and development of material recycling and services in biospheres of regional social economies.

Already our university has numerous outstanding experts in the fields of core and applied global environmental studies (environmental impact assessment, biosphere resource conservation and management studies, environmental effects evaluation etc). By focusing these research fields with existing programs such as development economics and tourism management programs delivered through the International Cooperation Policy (ICP) major, it further expands and strengthens the education and research of this major. On top of a sound base in the existing fields of the ICP major of Development Economics, International Public Administration, Environmental Policy and Administration, and Tourism Policy and Administration, the program will provide subjects in environmental dynamics analysis, climate change, bio-diversity, sustainable biosphere resource management studies, environmental technology, environmental materials science, and environmental impact assessment, and aims to deepen students knowledge, investigative and analytical skills in fundamental bioscience and applied ecological science. This academic and highly specialized education program aims to raise students' practical skills and ability through field research, internships, seminars and conference presentations.
