Students from APU and RU Exchange Meeting

Dec 22, 2008

From Friday, December 12, 2008 until Monday 15, seventy-six APU students from 19 countries participated in a ''Peace Exchange Meeting'' held in conjunction with students from Ritsumeikan University.

The meeting was held under the theme of ''Peace'' to give students from both universities a chance to understand each others perspective and think together about what they could do as members of the same educational institution to promote peace and understanding.

Before the meeting APU participants watched the war and peace themed movies: ''Letters from Iwo Jima'' and ''Brotherhood''. They also held group meetings and study sessions before the event in order to exchange ideas.

The 76 APU students and 24 Ritsumeikan University students toured the Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Ritsumeikan University (Founded in May of 1992 to realize one of Ritsumeikan's educational principles of ''Peace and Democracy'' through education and research), expressed their individual opinions on peace and then held an active discussion. Many opinions relating to the differences in values towards war and peace and thoughts towards peace were presented in what proved to be a great opportunity to think about ''peace'' from an international standpoint.
