Apr 1, 2010

On Friday, March 12, 2010, four second year students on the Japanese Government backed Global Business Leaders Development Program (GBLP*). APU has been selected by the Japanese Government to take part in and promote the GBLP.

APU President KORENAGA Shun and Vice-President YAKUSHIJI Kimio (who also serves as the GBLP Promotion Committee Chairman) addressed the GBLP Ceremony that was attended by graduating GBLP program students, their families and mentor faculty staff. President KORENAGA offered the students a few encouraging words, "You have all done very well to complete this challenging program. Thanks to your efforts and the efforts of the entire student body, APU's international reputation is strengthening daily. APU will continue to work towards nurturing the future Asia-Pacific and global business leaders". Vice-President YAKUSHIJI commented, "Your time here has come to an end, but I hope that you will continue the journey of life-long learning. I am sure that in the next five or ten years you will all be active throughout the world". President KORENAGA then handed the graduates with their certificate of completion.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduates then spoke of their aspirations for the future including KWON Sohae (APM4, Korea), "Meeting so many business executives and learning together with people of so many different nationalities has been a valuable experience. I hope to make full use of these experiences and work to fulfill your expectations".

The GBLP aims to develop future leaders who can contribute to Japan's economic development while leading the way in the Asia-Pacific. In addition to regular APU classes, Program students spend their 3rd and 4th years taking GBLP subjects (16 credits) including special seminars and internships. This year's GBLP graduates, like the class of 2008, have secured job offers from affiliated business and major domestic and international firms. Let's look forward their future achievements on the business stage.

The GBLP began in 2007 after the APU proposal was adopted into the Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia. This program was commissioned by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Designed to strengthen the international competitiveness of Japanese businesses, this program accepts exceptional students with a strong desire to seek employment in Japanese businesses from throughout Asia and equip them with specialist knowledge and Japanese language skills. The program seeks to nurture global human resources with the ability to bridge Japanese business with the rest of the world.
