In Japan, natural disasters such as earthquakes, wind/flood damage, and fires often occur.
To protect yourself from such disasters, you need to be prepared on a regular basis.
Please use the following information to prepare for such disasters.

Beppu City Disaster Prevention Map

In preparation for a potential Nankai Trough earthquake, please check in advance the safe areas located at an elevation of at least 10 meters (as a guideline, on the mountain side of the JR Nippo Line) as well as designated evacuation shelters, using the Beppu City Disaster Prevention Map linked below. Additionally, in September 2024, a new Storm Surge Hazard Map was added to this resource, indicating areas that could be affected by heavy rainfall associated with approaching typhoons.
In the event of an earthquake, there is a high risk of tsunamis, and in the event of heavy rain, the risk of flooding increases. It is therefore important to be familiar with evacuation routes and the nearest high ground in advance, so you can evacuate quickly when necessary.
Always keep in mind the importance of taking action to protect your own life.

This video explains in detail about how you should act in the event of eathquake.

Disaster Preparedness Card

This card summarizes what you should check and prepare in advance for disaster.
It also introduces what to do in the event of an actual disaster.
We recommend that you print it out and carry it with you at all times.

APU Emergency Disaster Response Handbook

This handbook provides clear explanations on how to prepare for earthquakes, storms, and fires, and how to respond both during and after such disasters.

Safety Confirmation

To enable prompt confirmation of students’ safety in the event of a disaster, evacuation drills are conducted regularly on campus. During emergencies and drills, safety confirmation notices will be sent to your APU email account.
Furthermore, in the event of large-scale natural disasters or conflicts not only in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, but also elsewhere in Japan or abroad, emails will be sent to students who are from or staying in the affected regions.
When you receive such an email, please cooperate by responding promptly to confirm your safety.
