Development Deeds Organization (DDO) is a student organization seeking to help people in the mountainous areas of Nepal—where it has become difficult to earn a stable income due to the COVID-19 pandemic—by effectively utilizing bamboo that can be cheaply sourced locally. More specifically, the organization installs vinyl greenhouses with the use of bamboo, and plans workshops to teach production techniques for products like bamboo charcoal, bamboo vinegar and bamboo handicrafts. The goal of DDO is to connect its efforts developing specialty goods utilizing local resources to the stabilization of agricultural earnings and regional vitalization.

At present, DDO holds meetings twice a week. There, the organization plans fund-raising activities for the purpose of researching differences between Nepalese and Japanese bamboo and pooling together funds to purchase bamboo and seeds to use in production.

On Tuesday, July 21, DDO met with the planning director of an NPO based in Nepal. This meeting included a training session for fostering understanding of the current state of Nepal, things that should be taken into consideration upon rendering assistance, and other topics. Thanks to this session, the plans of the organization have taken on a greater sense of feasibility, and the members were able to show their earnest desire to contribute to positive change. Going forward, the members of Development Deeds Organization expect to continue to spread their knowledge, and endeavor to make their plans and activities a reality.
