What is APU Abacus Club?
APU Abacus Club is a group established by APU students to promote intra-prefectural exchange through abacus and improve the skills of players in Oita Prefecture. Abacus (“soroban” in Japanese) is a calculation tool used in Japan in which beads represent digits. Abacus competitions are about the speed and accuracy of calculations. All of the domestic members of the club have obtained the Dan level of abacus and aim to improve the proficiency level of players in Oita Prefecture. Moreover, international members learn about the Japanese culture of soroban, while seeking mutual understanding with local people through joint practice in multiple languages.
