Gakkensai: Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research

It is, of course, essential to take care to avoid accidents or injuries while living as a student. However, in case of unexpected accidents or injuries during educational or research activities, APU covers the insurance premiums for all regular students and enrolls them in the “Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research” (abbreviated as Gakkensai).
In addition, a special “Commuting Accident Risk Compensation Rider” is attached. This covers accidental injuries sustained while commuting to and from school, or while traveling between university facilities, for the purpose of attending classes, school events, or extracurricular activities.
Procedures for Insurance Claims
Forms are available at and should be submitted to the Student Office.
Within one month of the accident, submit an outline of the incident through the Gakkensai Accident Report System.
After full recovery, submit the Insurance Claim Form Set to the Student Office counter.
Insurance benefits will be transferred directly from the insurance company to the student’s bank account.

Note: Other benefits, such as disability insurance, may also be paid.
Even while within “university facilities,” coverage does not apply when in AP House, when staying in prohibited places/times designated by the university, or when engaging in prohibited acts. In addition, coverage is not guaranteed in all cases.
If you wish to have broader coverage, please consider enrolling individually in plans such as Student Comprehensive Insurance, Sports Safety Insurance, or Volunteer Activity Insurance offered by the Co-op or insurance companies.
For those participating in a “Contract-type Internship”, application for Course B Liability Insurance coupled with Gakkensai can be completed at the Student Office.
Comprehensive Insurance for Students Lives Coupled with Gakkensai
All international students are automatically enrolled in this insurance as part of the admission process. This insurance provides coverage for liability accidents in daily life.
About two months after enrollment, a Subscriber Certificate will be mailed to you. Since you will be required to present this certificate when signing an apartment contract, please keep it safe.
