For those interested in club activities at APU, you’ll be glad to know that students can create their own clubs. Here, I’ll share my experience of establishing a basketball club at APU.
One of the biggest challenges I faced when starting the club was managing and securing members. I recommend beginning by recruiting members at AP House. Build connections with potential members and those willing to take on leadership roles before submitting your application.
Once you’ve organized your members, you’ll need to submit a “Application for Forming a Student Organization” and a “Member List.” To apply for a club, Core members must be filled: Representative, Deputy Representative, Accountant, System Administrator. It’s important to note that individuals holding these roles cannot simultaneously serve in similar positions in other organizations.
Once the club was approved, I attended various orientation sessions and briefings. Whenever I had questions, I consulted with the office staff for clarification.
Now, 2 year has passed since the club was established. We set our activity days on Wednesdays during 7th period. The club is diverse, with members of various nationalities. While we’ve encountered communication challenges along the way, we’ve worked through them to continue our activities.
So far, we’ve organized two events: the first in the fall of 2023 and the second in the spring of 2024, which included an exhibition match with an off-campus group. Looking ahead, we aim to organize more exhibition matches with people outside the university.
While I’ve shared the process of establishing the club, maintaining it is the next challenge. Issues such as finding successors for leadership roles remain a concern. Interestingly, clubs with members from multiple nationalities tend to thrive. With our club’s diverse composition, we hope to continue fostering meaningful connections and friendships through our future activities.
