With classes, club activities, study sessions, and social life packed into one campus, every APU student’s daily routine looks slightly different. But what happens when AI tries to design the “ideal” schedule for a student? Would it be a perfect balance of productivity and relaxation, or a completely unrealistic version of student life?
To find out, I asked AI (ChatGPT) to generate a detailed APU student’s schedule, then compared it to what actually happens. The results are surprisingly accurate in some ways!
In the morning, my routine and AI’s routine are almost the same. I often review some study notes while riding the bus to school. Then, I reach my classes and grab a hot coffee or matcha bottle from a vending machine, which are conveniently located nearly everywhere on campus.
A big thank you to the abundance of “jidouhanbaiki” (vending machines) around our campus
After morning classes, AI thinks we will enjoy a meal at the cafeteria with cuisines from different cultures. This is true as the food in APU’s cafeteria is quite nutritious and diverse. Not only that, APU students also organize Multicultural Weeks, and specific dishes from various countries will be served in the cafeteria during those periods as well. I also spend my lunch time catching up with friends about schoolwork or our daily lives.
I usually go for a warm bowl of ramen and some side dish
Then, in the afternoon, we either take more classes or join other activities (similar to what AI told me). Personally, I would attend other classes or finish most of my homework while still at school to have more personal time in the evening. Many friends of mine usually have weekly club meetings, so they would reserve a room for their discussions. At APU, you can reserve many types of rooms, depending on your purpose and the size of the room (make sure to check all the conditions before reserving). Alternatively, we can just go to the common area in the J Building (Green Commons), which is livelier and often filled with various activities.
Look at the afternoon glow in the F Building! This is where most classes take place
Finally, AI predicts that in the evening, most students will have dinner with friends or study and attend more club sessions. Some can enjoy other forms of relaxation and then go to bed to recharge their batteries for the next day. When I have time, I usually go to the supermarket to buy fresh ingredients for a home-cooked meal. But when I’m busy, I will indeed ask my friends to go out for dinner. There are many tasty and affordable dining spots around Beppu. If I feel a bit more adventurous, I can take a train to Oita and have dinner there, then a quick train back home! My day typically ends by midnight, and I try not to go to sleep too late since I mostly have morning classes.
The Verdict: AI's Ideal vs. APU's Dynamic Reality
Overall, AI’s version of a student’s daily routine is more well-structured and balanced, while real life at APU has more nuances. Some days follow a well-planned schedule, while others are more flexible, and that is what makes student life exciting. Every student finds their own rhythm to fit their goals, interests, and lifestyles.
