Before you know it, you’ve become a member of the local community – Beppu, your home away from home.

Beppu is one of Japan’s foremost international tourism destinations and also the home city of APU. With a rich hot-spring heritage, Beppu is the second largest city in Oita Prefecture and is enjoying a period of rapid internationalization.

APU students have been warmly welcomed by the region and relations with the local community have flourished. This can be seen in University and student participation in community revitalization research seminars, student involvement in local festivals and the University’s ongoing contribution to regional development. APU international students also play an integral role in promoting intercultural understanding through visiting local primary schools as language tutors to raise the children’s English skills and international awareness. In this way, APU enjoys an active relationship with the community and our students continue to play an important role in the internationalization and development of Beppu and the region.

Thanks to these community links, APU graduates have come to think of Beppu as their home away from home.
