The Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University Domestic Student Tuition Reduction Scholarship is an original APU scholarship that would reduce the tuition amount the student needs to pay to half of the tuition amount.
The information below is for students who are ineligible for the New System for Higher Education Aid (hereinafter referred to as the JASSO Grant-Type Scholarship) because of their visa status or the amount of time between their graduation from high school and university enrollment*. The information below does not apply to students who are ineligible for the JASSO Grant-Type Scholarship because they do not satisfy the selection criteria due to family finances, etc.

*Dependent visa holders, those with a gap of 2 years or more between their graduation from high school and university enrollment, etc.

1. Eligibility Requirements

Domestic students who satisfy the financial aid and academic criteria. (Refer to the Application Guidelines for details.)

* Students selected for this scholarship will undergo an annual Assessment for Continuation to check that they satisfy the financial aid and academic criteria. Your scholarship will be suspended or revoked if you are found to no longer satisfy the criteria.

2. Tuition Reduction Amount

From 3rd Semester onwards	750,000 yen	375,000 yen

3. Tuition Reduction Method / Timing

New students are required to pay the full tuition fee for the first semester by the enrollment deadline. The tuition fee reduction amount will be refunded later (for spring semester admissions: October, for fall semester admissions: February). From the following semester onward, the payment slip will be issued based on the reduced tuition fee.
Current students who apply during the application period will be granted a deferment for the tuition payment of the semester they applied for. After the application is approved, please pay the tuition fee by the specified deadline using the revised payment slip issued reflecting the tuition reduction.
(Spring semester applications: mid-August, Fall semester applications: mid-February)
If, as a result of the continuation review, a suspension or cancellation decision is made after the tuition payment deadline, you may be billed for any shortfall in tuition fees for the relevant semester. The payment deadline for the additional charges will vary depending on the timing of the decision.

4. Schedule of Application and Screening

*We will inform students via Campus Terminal (APU’s BBS) when applications open.
(From 2026 onward, we will inform students via the Student Portal instead of the Campus Terminal (APU’s BBS) when applications open.)
*The application period is different from the JASSO Grant-Type Scholarship.
*The above schedule may be subject to change.

5. Application Method

Download the documents below. Be sure that you thoroughly read and understand the information in the Application Guidelines. Application documents must be received by Student Office within the designated application period.

6．Other APU scholarships a student can/cannot receive along with Domestic Student Tuition Reduction Scholarship

※ Students who enrolled in or after AY2023 who are receiving both the APU Domestic Student Academic Excellence Scholarship (100% Tuition Reduction) and the Domestic Student Tuition Reduction Scholarship=You will continue to receive the Domestic Student Tuition Reduction Scholarship (50% Tuition Reduction) even if the APU Domestic Student Academic Excellence Scholarship is revoked.

APU Financial Aid Tuition Reduction System

Possible to receive both.
50% Tuition Reduction by Domestic Student Tuition Reduction Scholarship +　50% Tuition Reduction by Financial Aid Tuition Reduction System =100% Tuition Reduction in total (You do not need to pay tuition)
