On Friday, December 13, 2019 the Institute for Professional Excellence in Global Learning (IPG) held the second annual APU OWL (Opening the World of Learning) event. This project was designed as a successor to APU Night, which was implemented by faculty and staff until AY 2016. In this project faculty and staff gather together to share their vision, discuss university issues, and share information with each other.

Just as last year, the 2nd APU OWL was held as a report session for instructors participating in the Minnesota FD Program. The reporting faculty gave presentations on the teaching methods they had learned from the workshops and class observations held during their September visit to the University of Minnesota, and how they could implement the knowledge gained through their yearlong participation in the Program in the courses they are currently teaching.

This year’s OWL featured presentations from professors who visited the University of Minnesota in September. Audience members included Dean of APS Li Yan, who also participated in the Minnesota visit, Program Coordinator and APS Professor Yuichi Kondo, and faculty and staff from last year’s program. During the Q&A period attending faculty members were able to ask practical questions and offer opinions based on specific issues encountered in their classes, fully embracing the goals of APU OWL.
