A team of College of International Management (APM) students participated in the Sauder Summit Global Case Competition held Monday, March 7 – Friday, March 11 by the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in Canada and successfully took home third prize. In case competitions, teams are given a certain amount of time to propose a solution to a business problem. For this competition, teams had to work on two five-hour cases followed by one 24 hour-case, during which time they had to come up with solutions to issues faced by an actual non-profit foundation that raises money for cancer research and an indigenous people’s organization.

The APU team consisted of the following four members who were selected by participating in on-campus case competitions: SIM Chok Hao Javis (APM, 4th year, Singapore), AU Marisa Tsuruyo Mew Lan (APM, 4th year, United States), NGUYEN Le Bao Vy (APM, 4th year, Vietnam), and FROEMERT Sarika (APM, 2nd year, Thailand). “Each member brought something unique to the table, and our teamwork is what led us to victory. We are grateful that we could enjoy ourselves while we worked on the cases. We hope to put this experience to use in our job search and future careers,” said Ms. FROEMERT and Ms. AU.

APU was also the first Japanese university to be invited to participate in the CBS Case Competition held at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark this March. Professor OTAKE Toshitsugu, Dean of APM and the Graduate School of Management (GSM) remarked, “I believe that participation in business case competitions not only helps APM and GSM spread the word about and achieve their mission, it gives APU students a leg up onto the world stage. I hope APM and GSM students will go out into the world and participate in more competitions in the future.”

Going forward, APM and GSM plans to focus more efforts on participating in business case competitions as it aims to become world-class business school.
