On May 20, the Japanese government announced that former APU president Shun Korenaga will receive the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, for his contributions to education. Dr. Korenaga was president of APU from January 2010 to December 2017.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure is awarded to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated meritorious service and achievements that have benefited society.
