On Thursday, March 24 at 17:00, it was announced that APU ranked #1 for Environment in the Japan University Rankings 2022, released by the Times Higher Education (THE), a British journal specializing in higher education. It was also the 5th consecutive year that APU was declared the #1 private university in western Japan.

This year, APU took the nation’s top spot in the pillar of Environment, a category that "looks at the make-up of the student and faculty body at each campus, helping students to determine whether they will find themselves in a diverse, supportive, and inclusive university environment."

For any educational institution in Japan that aims to provide an international learning environment, the restriction of international academic exchanges during the COVID-19 pandemic is a severe challenge. However, under such circumstances, APU continued to accept more than 90% of international students as full-fledged students (not exchange students). The university striving to maintain its multicultural and multinational learning environment even under the pandemic led to this evaluation.

In the pillar of Engagement, which considers the degree of satisfaction of current students as well as reputation among high school teachers, APU ranked 3rd in Japan once again. As for the field of Outcomes, which reflects graduates' success and reputation among researchers, the university was ranked 32nd.
