March 8th, 2024, the College of Sustainability and Tourism (ST), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), and the Center for Spatial Information Science (CSIS), the University of Tokyo held a joint research workshop as the beginning of a promising research collaboration, for which about 40 participants attended both in person and via online.
The workshop was presided over by Professor Ji Han (ST). It commenced with the introduction of the expertise and missions of both institutions by Professor Kaoru Sezaki (CSIS, Director) and Professor Yan Li (ST, Dean). Professors from CSIS introduced the environmental applications of drone technology, and the exploration and development of pseudo-human flow data.
Moreover, latest research endeavors were also shared from professors of ST, such as the interdisciplinary applications of spatio-temporal analysis, and the methodological innovations for assessing urban carbon footprints using multi-sourced data.
The workshop concluded with an engaging discussion session, where researchers from both institutions explored the practical applications of spatial data and brainstormed potential topics for future collaboration.
This event not only signifies the start of a synergistic partnership but also underscores the commitment of both CSIS and ST to advancing the field of spatial information science. With a focus on data sharing, student education, and nurturing young researchers, this collaboration is poised to make significant contributions to sustainability.
