Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture (President: Hiroshi Yoneyama) and the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture (President: Yasunori Mitani) have been selected for the "Support Program for Creating Social Impact through University Internationalization," part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's (MEXT) “2024 University Education Revitalization Strategy Support Fund.”
This program aims to further promote university internationalization by building systems for international collaborative learning both domestically and internationally, thereby fostering a positive cycle that promotes the dispatch of Japanese students abroad, the acceptance and retention of excellent international students, and mutual interaction between the two groups of students.
Over the next six years, from 2024 to 2030, the two Kyushu-based universities will collaborate to develop “human resources who can create value in a global society, transcending organizations, regions, and fields.” Their focus is on working with people from various cultural and social backgrounds to create new value, lead social change, and cultivate individuals who can drive the transformation of society.
Since its founding in 2000, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) has built a unique educational environment that is one of the most global in Japan, with students from over 110 countries and regions. Next year, APU will celebrate its 25th anniversary, marking a milestone in our creation of a Global Learning Community where students of various nationalities and cultures learn together.
APU is now at a critical juncture and must take a bold step forward. As indicated by the program’s title, "Leap Beyond Global: Creating Global Value Beyond Organizations, Regions, and Fields," we aim to go beyond the concept of "global" and push toward a new dimension.
We aim to become a university that nurtures individuals capable of changing the world by 2030. This means producing leaders who can create social impact and foster social change, utilizing the strengths of APU’s educational and cultural environment. APU will also proactively take action as a key player in social transformation, leveraging its educational and research capabilities.
Furthermore, through this program, APU will collaborate closely with the Kyushu Institute of Technology, a national university renowned for producing highly skilled engineers, to foster talent capable of creating global value. Together, the two universities aim to implement new ideas in society and tackle regional challenges, training individuals who can create value for the world.
Through this initiative, APU strives to elevate itself as a global university that contributes not only to Japanese society but also to the world.
Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) was founded in 1909 as a private institution named “Meiji College of Technology” and has a very long history of educating and training students to become skilled professional engineers. Kyutech values importance of diversity in nationality, age, gender, and academic field, and is striving to create new value and innovation for the future.
Our goal is to become a university at unexplored heights which can transcend the concept of “global” as indicated by the Program Title: "Leap Beyond Global: Creating Global Value Beyond Organizations, Regions, and Fields,"
Kyutech is grateful to work on this Program and deepen the cooperation with APU, one of the leading international universities in Japan, and we will enhance and strengthen our international partnerships. We expect this Program will provide opportunities for students to acquire knowledge and skills to solve problems to contribute to global society.
As Kyutech and APU are both Kyushu-based universities, our geographic advantage and relationship will create synergies to realize new ideas, contribute to regional societies, and produce global talents who can bring about change and impact on society. Thus, we will pursue to innovate new values to contribute to not only Japan but also to the rest of the world.
We continue to improve our technological capability and innovative ideas, aiming for further progress of our university.
