On October 25 (Sat) and 26 (Sun), APU hosted its 23rd Tenku Festival on campus. The Tenku Festival is APU’s annual university festival, offering local community members a chance to experience the multicultural and multinational environment created by students from approximately 100 countries and regions. The event promotes intercultural understanding and regional engagement, while also serving as a platform for students to showcase their daily activities.

This year’s Tenku Festival Executive Committee, organized by students, chose the theme “Palette.” The theme reflects the hope that each student and visitor would bring their own unique “color” to the festival, and that the blending of these diverse colors would create something new and beautiful.

The festival opened with greetings from Beppu City Deputy Mayor Masuo Abe and APU President Hiroshi Yoneyama. As part of APU’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the festival featured special programs such as a sports event with former Japan national rugby team captain Toshiaki Hirose, a “Scrum Unison” sing-along of We Are the World to promote peace, a commemorative photo exhibition, and a stamp rally.

Over the two-day event, student clubs, organizations, and alumni hosted a wide variety of booths and activities, including food stalls, traditional festival games, exhibitions, a flea market, and even a sauna experience. On the special stage, powerful performances were delivered by students, clubs, local community members, and guest artists. Continuing from last year, many local companies participated in special collaborative programs, offering workshops, lectures, and hands-on experiences that delighted the attendees.

Message from the Tenku Festival Executive Committee

Thanks to the support and participation of many people, the 23rd Tenku Festival concluded successfully. Since around April, the Executive Committee has worked tirelessly for nearly six months to realize a festival that would satisfy all visitors. Although we faced various challenges during the preparation period, we overcame them through teamwork and dedication. As a result, we were able to host approximately 130 programs and welcome over 9,000 visitors.
Seeing the smiles of our guests brought us great joy and a sense of accomplishment. If our Tenku Festival has left even a small impression in your memory, we are truly honored.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the 23rd Tenku Festival, as well as to all those who supported and assisted us throughout the process.
