In the summer of 2017, 4 students participated in GAIA (Global Internship with Alumni), a program organized by APU that matches current students with alumni working both in and out of Japan.

On November 1 and 2, program participants presented their summer internship experiences at a public event. One student interned with The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, another with the Embassy of Palau, and two students went to the Embassy of the Maldives. Each participant shared what they gained from their internship and how they would use their experiences in the future. They also spoke on the importance of learning how to take on new challenges and the networking opportunities available during the internship.

Students from all over the world study at APU and go on a wide range of paths after graduation. GAIA is just one program that supports students in forming career paths over the course of their four years of study at the university. Programs like these give students the opportunity to network with industry professionals while learning practical skills.

Previous participants have interned at the Fukuoka-based Girls, be Ambitious, a company that sells fair trade products produced in the Philippines, and IkuZo! a Japanese education center that teaches Japanese culture and language through manga in Indonesia.
