In 2019, the APU Global Research Program launched as an overseas study program in response to feedback from students. They said that programs do not cover topics that students want to learn about, and that participants want to carry out local surveys on their own but do not know how to plan and perform these projects.
The APU Global Research Program will allow students to conduct research on topics of interest related to “Environment & Development,” “Hospitality & Tourism,” “Culture, Society & Media,” and “International Relations & Peace Studies,” which comprise the four fields of study in the College of Asia Pacific Studies. While learning research skills, students will travel to designated host regions, carry out field research based on their research proposals, and compile their results in a research report. In this way, students can gain a practical understanding of the research process from beginning to end.
Field research will begin between September 1 and 6, 2019, in Stockholm, Sweden and Shanghai, China. Professors SUDO Tomonori and Associate Professor QIAN Xuepeng from the College of Asia Pacific Studies will act as field leaders for the Sweden and China programs, respectively.
Once onsite, students participating in the program will use Instagram to share about the field research and other activities. We invite you to follow the Instagram account and stay up to date on the program’s progress.
