On Wednesday, June 8, APU held a welcome event for students who were unable to attend their entrance ceremonies due to the pandemic: Welcome to Your New Home 2020-2022!
This event was for entering students as well as students who have not been able to interact with classmates from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID-19 border restrictions and the switch to online classes. In addition to celebrating the revival of a lively, multicultural campus, the event also marked a new start for APU.
On the day of the event, President Deguchi took the podium to greet the students, “Welcome to APU. Everyone, meet many people at APU, read lots of books, travel the world far and wide, and challenge yourself in many ways. I will also continue to challenge myself. So, let’s take on the challenge together.” Vice President Yoneyama also gave a welcoming message.
The last half of the event featured performances from 8 different student groups, making the event even more spectacular. More than 500 people participated, their applause for the performances resounding throughout Millennium Hall.
