On Friday, September 20, 2024, Mr. Takaaki Nomoto, Executive Director representing Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Japan and Saudi Arabia on the Boards of Directors of the African Development Bank Group, Ms. Valerie Dabady, Manager, Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Department, and Ms. Rosa Lugos, Principal Resource Mobilization Officer, visited APU. On the day, Vice President Satoshi Kawazoe, Dean of the Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, BUI Thanh Huong, Dean of the School of Management, Takeshi Fujimoto, and other faculty members, along with students from Africa, welcomed the guests. They discussed APU’s experience to date with implementing the Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) provided by the Government of Japan and the Bank Group. They also affirmed the relevance of JADS and the role of APU as a JADS partner university in preparing African youth – the continent’s greatest asset – to contribute to Africa’s socio-economic development. The Executive Director expressed his intention to strengthen the collaboration with APU, stating, “We want to deepen the relationships for further cooperation with APU, which has the largest intake of JADS scholars.”

Since 2019, APU’s graduate school has been accepting JADS scholars, training highly skilled personnel to address issues such as energy, food, and development problems in the Africa region, known as the High 5’s agenda. JADS scholars have been making remarkable achievements, such as securing employment with Japanese companies operating in Africa and having their master’s theses selected as outstanding papers, leading to further studies in doctoral programs.
