The AY2024 Inter-university Joint Student Symposium on Tourism, Hospitality, and Leisure Research was held online on January 25. More than 50 undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members from six universities in Japan participated.

The symposium has been held since the academic year of 2018 to encourage research exchange among seminar students across universities. Though the 2018 and 2019 events were held on the APU campus, this is the fourth year the event has been held online, successfully welcoming a number of participants and presentations thus far.

This symposium featured 30 research presentations from undergraduate and graduate students from five universities (APU, Wakayama University, Yamaguchi University, Toyama College of Welfare Science, and Kanagawa University) and a co-chair from Ritsumeikan University. Associate Professor Hiroaki Saito of the College of International Management co-chaired the symposium. Professors Bui Thanh Huong and Thomas Jones of the College of Sustainability and Tourism served on the organising committee.

APU students successfully secured awards in various categories, including Group Presentation Awards, Undergraduate Presentation Awards, and Innovative Research Awards.

Associate Professor Saito, who co-hosted the symposium, said, “Over the years, the quality of students' research and presentations has improved significantly. This event continues to serve as an important milestone. It allows students to develop creative and innovative research and present their findings to peers within and beyond the university. Additionally, this platform offers a valuable opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback from their peers and faculty members beyond their primary supervisors.”
