On March 12, 2025, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Hon. Mr. Baron Devavesi WAQA, along with his delegation and H.E. MICHII Rokuichiro, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, Nauru and Tuvalu, and Permanent Representative of Japan to PIF visited the APU campus.
The delegation was welcomed by APU students from Pacific Island countries and university officials, after which discussions were facilitated by Dean of Academic Affairs, Professor MEIRMANOV Serik.
During the discussions, Secretary General Baron Waqa encouraged APU students from the Pacific Islands region to recognize their roles as civilian ambassadors of their home countries while studying in Japan. They were advised to use their time at APU to promote cultural exchange and represent their nations positively.
The students were advised to continue to embrace a holistic approach to their education—not only focusing on academics but also on personal growth and cultural understanding. They were also encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available and to continue striving for excellence in their academic and personal endeavours.
The Secretary General also emphasized the importance of universities like APU addressing pressing global challenges, such as climate change, through academic programs and research initiatives.
