APU President Yoneyama Pays Courtesy Visit to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan

On July 14, 2025, APU President Hiroshi Yoneyama and Professor Nishantha Giguruwa of the College of Asia Pacific Studies visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Minato-ku, Tokyo, to pay a courtesy call on Professor Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Japan.

Ambassador Kumarasinghe, who completed his doctoral program at APU’s Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies in September 2007, has engaged extensively in education and research activities in Sri Lanka and China. On May 22, 2025, he assumed office as the 19th Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan.

During the meeting, President Yoneyama congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and highlighted the achievements of APU’s Sri Lankan students and alumni. Professor Giguruwa emphasized APU’s role as a hub for academic and human exchange between Sri Lanka and Japan and discussed the potential for capacity building in fields such as technology and agriculture.

Ambassador Kumarasinghe listened attentively, fondly recalling his memories of life in Beppu with his family during his student days as well as the multicultural learning environment he experienced at APU. He also expressed his strong commitment to further strengthening collaboration between Sri Lanka and Japan.
